Honor 90 5G Review: Best review with pros and cons

They recently unveiled the Honor 90 5G; however, it seems to come with a fair share of compromises, and the pricing is not quite ideal either.

The Honor 90 5G comes in two variants, each with different specifications and prices. The first variant offers 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for Rs 37,999. For those looking for more power and storage, the second variant comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, priced at Rs 39,999.

Honor 90 5G Review

Honor 90 5G

No, the Honor 90 5G is not worth purchasing due to its high price tag and limited features. It only has a single speaker, lacks an SD card slot, and has a plastic build. Additionally, it only offers two operating system updates and has average cameras and SoC performance. Despite these drawbacks, it still costs Rs 37999, which is unjustified considering what it offers.

Although the cameras on the Honor 90 5G are not terrible, they are not impressive enough to justify the hefty price of Rs 37999. The default colour enhancement may be appealing, but it lacks OIS (optical image stabilization), which affects image quality.

Display and Build of Honor 90 5G

The curved display measuring 6.70 inches and boasting a smooth 120Hz refresh rate is simply stunning. Plus, with an outstanding brightness of 1600 nits, you can rest assured that every detail will remain visible even under the scorching sunlight!

I discovered a small bug in the system. Imagine this scenario: you’re using the Honor 90 5g in your room with the screen brightness set to Auto mode. However, when you step into bright sunlight, the brightness doesn’t go up to the full 100%; it instead stops at 80%.

Even if you manually adjust the brightness to 100%, it will keep reverting back to 80%.

Honor 90 5G
  • The in-display fingerprint works perfectly fine because it uses the same optical sensor.
  • With this amazing 1.5k quad AMOLED panel, you have the freedom to adjust the resolution according to your preferences by simply accessing the settings.
  • Enjoy watching FHD+ content not only on Netflix but also on other popular OTT platforms with the Honor 90 5G, thanks to its Widevine L1 support.
  • It’s a rare treat to find HDR10 support in mid-budget smartphones, but you’ll be delighted to know that Netflix offers this feature as well.

This doesn’t seem great since the Honor 90 5G is priced at Rs 37999. It would have been nice if they included metal frames at the very least. Though everyone will probably use a case, it might be a challenge to find tempered glass due to the phone’s curved display.

Performance of Honor 90 5G

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 disappoints on the Rs 37999 smartphone, while the POCO F5 priced at Rs 29,999 is equipped with the more advanced Snapdragon 7 Gen 2. This tells us that the Honor 90 5G isn’t suitable for gaming enthusiasts or power-hungry users.

Honor 90 5G

The device also includes UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5.0 RAM support, which results in improved performance across the board, including faster screen refresh rates and a smoother user interface. Running on MagicOS 7.1 built on Android 13, Honor assures users of 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security updates.

Now, while 2 years of OS updates seem satisfactory, considering this is not a budget smartphone, Honor could have gone the extra mile and provided at least 3 years of OS updates to dazzle their customers.

NFC has been incorporated to make life easier. Now, you can simply tap to pay anyone using any finance app of your choice. Moreover, Honor has also made the 5G network accessible. So, if 5G is available in your city, you’ll be able to enjoy its lightning-fast speeds.

Cameras of Honor 90 5G

The Honor 90 5G boasts impressive camera features! It sports a phenomenal 200MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP depth sensor at the back. Plus, for stunning selfies, there’s an impressive 50MP selfie shooter on the front.

When it comes to video recording, the rear cameras of Honor 90 5G can capture amazing footage at 1080p@30/60fps and 4k@30fps. However, the front camera’s capabilities are slightly limited, offering video recording at 40k@30fps and 1080p@30/60fps.

The camera game on this smartphone is quite a mixed bag. Both the rear and front cameras flaunt video shooting prowess with options like 40k@30fps and 1080p@30/60fps. However, OIS is a no-show in this gadget, relying solely on EIS.

The 8MP ultra-wide lens is there, ready to capture impressive shots during the day. However, when the night falls, it turns into a bit of a scaredy-cat, so avoid using it in low-light situations. Trust me, rely 100% on the primary sensor if you want to snap anything worth showcasing after sunset.

Audio and Battery of Honor 90 5G

Don’t get your hopes up for booming stereo speakers on the Rs 37,999 Honor 90 5G smartphone, because sorry to burst your bubble, it only packs a single speaker. It’s decent, but not worth the high price tag it carries. And as if that wasn’t enough, it also lacks a 3.5mm audio jack and an SD-Card slot, leaving you high and dry.

The 5,000mAh battery on this bad boy will hold up for a solid day. But hey, if you’re a power-hungry game addict who simply can’t get enough, you’ll need to juice it up twice daily.

Verdict of Honor 90 5G

The Honor 90 5G smartphone falls short of perfection from every angle. Frankly, it’s ridiculously overpriced for what it brings to the table. With a sole speaker, no charger included, so-so cameras, and a mediocre processor, Honor expects us to shell out a whopping Rs 37999! Utterly unjustifiable, if you ask me. A wiser choice would be to set your sights on the OnePlus Nord 3 or the OnePlus 11R. Trust me, they won’t leave your wallet gasping for air.
